THE CHALLENGE

With the growing demand in 3D rendered visuals and a foresight to scale their operations, Metaphore recognized the impending limitations of their on-premises workstations due to technical resource constraints. Being prepared for the future growth was key to ensure continued smooth business operations. The need was clear: a scalable, efficient rendering solution that could seamlessly integrate with their existing suite of tools, including Thinkbox Deadline and Metaphore’s preferred rendering engine.

THE SOLUTION

Auvaria addressed this challenge by deploying a robust and scalable cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The AWS cloud was selected to provide rendering farm infrastructure resources on-demand and at required scale. This allows Metaphore to always render product images and videos on-demand without constraints and seamlessly integrates with the existing rendering solution around Thinkbox and Metaphore’s preferred rendering engine.

For the implementation, Auvaria leveraged the AWS Rendering Farm Development Kit (RFDK). This development kit enables an expedited implementation of the rendering farm on AWS. Multiple AWS services were used to provide this flexible and scalable solution. The computing resources are provided by graphic optimized instances from Amazon EC2. The integration with AWS Auto Scaling ensures that always the right number of instances are provided to meet demand as well as ensure that not more instances are running to run cost efficient. Importantly, the rendering farm infrastructure implemented by RFDK is based on Infrastructure as Code principles, offering ease in future extension and reusability.

THE RESULTS

The collaboration between Metaphore and Auvaria led to a transformative impact on Metaphore's rendering operations. The AWS-based solution enabled Metaphore to scale its rendering farm in alignment with its business growth, without compromising on performance or efficiency. This transition resulted in a marked reduction in rendering times, enhancing overall productivity. Additionally, the flexibility to access rendering resources as needed ensured that Metaphore maintained cost efficiency, aligning resource usage with demand. Through this partnership, Metaphore achieved a significant upgrade in their rendering capabilities, empowering them to meet their business objectives and future growth plans effectively.
