THE CHALLENGE

Trawöger recognized the need to enhance its existing backup solution to ensure the integrity and security of its critical data assets. Facing evolving threats and the imperative to fortify its business continuity plans, Trawöger sought the expertise of Auvaria to navigate this complex challenge. The task at hand was formidable: to identify and implement a backup solution that could effectively store data in a scalable, segregated, and cost-efficient manner while adhering to stringent timelines.

THE SOLUTION

Auvaria addressed this challenge by conducting a thorough examination of Trawöger's current backup infrastructure, which was based on Veeam Backup & Replication. Leveraging this foundation, we devised a strategy that capitalized on their existing setup. Utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS), we identified a robust and secure backup storage solution that offered built-in ransomware protection through Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) capabilities. The seamless integration of Veeam with AWS provided an ideal solution that complemented their existing architecture.

The implementation process started with the establishment of the AWS stack, including the setup of AWS IAM identities and the configuration of Amazon S3 buckets dedicated to storing backups. Afterwards the configuration on the Veeam side could be conducted, we integrated Amazon S3 as an external backup storage location and configured the backup jobs to forward an additional copy to AWS.

THE RESULTS

The solution enabled Trawöger to meet their business continuity goals by maintaining an additional backup copy in a secure offsite environment, distinct from their on-premises setup. Leveraging the flexibility of S3, the backups are now safeguarded against ransomware attacks, and in the event of a disaster, restoration is feasible both on-premises and in the cloud.
